The University of Fribourg, Switzerland was founded in 1889 with just one faculty and a small number of students. Today it stands out as the only bilingual university in the country,teaching in French and German, with 5 faculties and 10,000 students following undergraduate, Masters and PhD programs, under the guidance of 800 professors, lecturers and research assistants. The 5 Faculties are; Arts and Humanities, Science and Medicine, Economics and Social sciences, Law and Theology. The university has gained international recognition as a center of excellence in research and teaching and learning. Location

The Faculty of SES of the university of Fribourg is located at the Perolles campus in Fribourg, Switzerland. The main campuses of the university are at Misericorde and Perolles. The city is in the heart of Switzerland amidst beautiful landscape on the border between French and German speaking regions of the country. It is only 2 hours to Zurich.

Campus

The faculty of SES is located in a modern building equipped with state of the art installations for teaching, learning and research providing optimal facilities for the 2000 strong student population.

The Faculty of SES operates a library to cater to the students with literature and data specific to economics and social sciences, collections,periodicals, journals and different statistics. The library at Perolles 2 and the State and University library are accessible to the students. There are cafeterias known as Mensa and spaces for learning and relaxation. There is a well managed IT services, a childcare center, a language center and a place for spiritual guidance. The IT services provide access to accounts and e-mail, WiFi and VPN, learning and courses, files and storage, hardware and software and other IT services

Each student once enrolled receives the Campus card which is used as the identity card, library card, and an electronic credit for photocopy machines, student refectories, cafeterias, vending machines and to take part in University Sports. Facilities for theses and publications and binding, color printing and photocopies are provided at the UniPrint. The student center of the university, Center Fries is the cultural center of the university. It was established in 1969. The center is open for students to participate in concerts, meetings, workshops, films and cultural coffees which are regularly organized at he center. It is complete with a kitchen, workshop, photography lab, rehearsal room and a laundry.

Residing Options

The student accommodation service, Apartis, provides10 apartments where bedrooms with shared facilities are available. The Accommodation service of the university is the place where the students could obtain information regarding housing either on campus or off campus.

In Fribourg there are many student hostels to provide accommodation for students opting for off campus housing. There are 11 student hostels around the city of Fribourg. Of these 3 are reserved for females and one for males. These feature bedrooms with shared kitchen, bathrooms and other facilities. The rates are considered inexpensive.

Faculty

As the professors and lecturers are engaged in research activities, their findings influence the contents of their lectures, teachings, seminars and exercises. The theory and practice are mixed in an optimum manner. The inputs from the industry come via conferences and guest lectures given by industry leaders. Degrees are offered in French and German and some Masters courses in French, German and English. The Masters programs offer a wide variety of courses so that student could customize the curriculum through subject based specialization. The smaller size of classes ensures optimal teacher-student interactions and active participation in study programs.

The Executive MBA in Nonprofit Management is a 15 one week modules spread over a period of 3-4 years followed by a presentation of a diploma thesis and a Master’s thesis. This is conducted via the Institute for Research Management of associations, foundations, cooperatives and other nonprofit organizations (NPOs). This institute with 40 years of experience in management of NPOs, has established the Fribourg Management Model for NPOs, which is the Standard reference work for the management of NPOs.

The Executive MBA in ICT Management and in Utility Management program is designed as a series of modules on different subject areas with one, two or three modules in each subject. Global Business Management with 14 modules, Digital mindset with 5 modules, Finance and Accounting with 6 modules, Leadership and Human Resources with 5 modules are the main subject areas. The theoretical knowledge is followed by a focus on solutions for practical problems and on specific knowledge in selected topics of ICT and Utility Management. The students are able to select the length, the starting date and the type of studies. Hence the course of studies could be full time with 30 modules in an year or part time with 30 modules in 1 up to 5 years. The interactive teaching methods combine theoretical know -how and practical approaches. The program is conducted in English. Assessments are in the form of 30 written/oral examinations. The program concludes with the final project. The students are given the opportunity for a student exchange at Cambridge Judge Business school (UK) and the East China University of Science & technology (Shanghai, China).

The university organizes on campus career recruitment events where the graduates meet the industry through workshops, presentations, assessment centers, meetings and networking spaces. These events are held throughout Switzerland and the university aims to engage with over 80 Top Swiss employers to these events.
