Founded in 1972, Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour is based in Pau (department of Pyrenees-Atlantiques) and also in Bayonne,Tarbes,Anglet, and Mont-de-Marsan in the Adour river basin. The Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour( UPPA) is administratively under the Academy of Bordeaux and it is the third largest university in southwestern France.Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour( UPPA) has an enrollment of 12,000 students.The university hosts 1,700 international students and also takes part in several cross-border and also international partnerships. 

The university provides Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctorates and vocational degrees programs to students through the 5 UFRs (Teaching and Research units) and two Doctoral schools. The UPPA is a multidisciplinary university that covers three main areas of study including economics, law, business, management, science, and technology, literature, arts, social sciences, humanities, and sport.

Services offered by the university

  • The campus at the Mont-de-Marsan has a College of Sciences and Technologies for Energy and the Environment (STEE) with approximately 300 students. 
  • The College of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) has various facilities at the Tarbes with a total of 700 students. It has a sports section (STAPS).
  • The campus at Bayonne-Anglet has 2.500 students in the College of European and International Studies (EEI) and is located on two sites including the St Croats and Monetary
  • The main campus of the university is located in a park in the north of the city of Pau, which is about a twenty-minute ride from the town center, within the urban limits. The President's office is located in the Présidence semicircular building.

Student life

  • There are two specialized university libraries in the Sciences Department and the Law and Arts Department.
  • The campus of the university has a Carrefour Market mall facing the Présidence southern entrance. There is a MégaCGR cinéma, a quick fast-food restaurant, and Pau's Université-La Poste post office along with a mailbox on Dean Poplawski avenue.
  • The sports department of the university offers 40 sports and outdoor activities including pelota, hiking, yoga, dance, swimming, surfing, and team sport. The students can enjoy sports for leisure and there are 60 student associations.
  • All the matters regarding student life are handled in the Centre Local des Oeuvres Universitaires et Scolaire.
  • The Cap Sud situated to the South-West of the campus is the main restaurant where the Maison de l'étudiant is located. There are various student societies on campus.
  • Sport at the university is organized by the SUAPS service. There are various sporting facilities including the André Lavie Stadium which is close to the Pau's Léo Lagrange COSEC and a UPPA sports hall which is close to Plein Ciel tennis courts and swimming pool.
