St. Martin University is a Benedictine university based in Lacey, Washington, that is privately sponsored. One of the oldest all-boys schools in the country, it was founded in 1895. Founded in 1900, St. Martin University became a degree-granting institution in 1940 after delivering college-level courses. In 2005, St. Martin's was officially recognized as a university. On the campus of the university, there is a Benedictine monastery in operation, with some of the monks serving as university teachers. The commuter students of St. Martin University can use their student ID cards to ride local Intercity Transit routes– the public transportation provider for Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, and Yelm, free of cost.
