This university first started off as Hammond Junior college in 1925 by Linus A Sims who was the principal of Hammond High School. Which started off as a small college was later shifted to north of Hammond in 1928 and has since been named as Southeastern Louisiana College. This university got its university status in the year of 1970.
It has been reported to be one of the fastest growing colleges in United States during the 90s. Presently this university is the third largest in Louisiana. There are approximately 150000 students on campus at present. It has 150 majors and minor courses at present.It is ranked in the list of one of the best regional universities in USA. This university has a number of courses ranging from life sciences to Arts.

This university is located at Hammond, LA. It has various educational branches of its own at Baton Rouge, Abita Springs, Walker and Manchac, Louisiana. It is placed 45 minutes away from New Orleans. The security of the university is at its place with 24 hour vehicle and foot patrols. It does not provide transport during the day, but has late night transport services.

It provides software programs for the students and also has a well equipped lab which has tablets, computers etc. for media and other departments too. Moreover, it also provides a 24/7 helpline for all the students pursuing their degrees in this field.
The nursing program offered in this university is one of the best and has been recognised for the same by the Louisiana Health Association. It basically offers the best of the courses for major in Nursing. It has four virtual nursing labs for people to experience the real world scenario before stepping out in real.
