Prairie View A&M University is a historically black co-educational institute set up in 1876. The university has pledged to help advance the career of each student who has come to study there by offering various subjects ranging from engineering, architecture, and business to nursing, humanities and social science. The campus is spread around 1,502 acres and its backdrop is rural. It practices a semester base academic timetable through various bachelors and masters degrees along with doctoral degree programs conducted via eight schools and colleges.

Campus

Location

If you are coming from a metropolitan city, you might have a hard time adjusting here since it is countryside with no chain restaurants and less areas of attractions. Also, you will face huge inconvenience if you don’t have a car at your disposal. If you want to get anything, you need to drive to places, which are around 20 -30 minutes away.

Campus

As already mentioned, it stretches over 1,502 acres. You will find the John B. Coleman Library where you will have access to electronic periodicals and book apart from print periodicals across all disciplines. The library also has a tutoring centre, which provides you tuition in various areas like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, Biology and Spanish among others.
Besides this, the university boasts of quality research centres like Cooperative Agricultural Research Centre (CARC) under College of Architecture and Human Sciences and the Prairie View Solar Observatory (PVSO) under College of Arts and Sciences. The College of Engineering also houses some impressive research centres like the Centre for Digital Battlefield, Centre for Energy and Environment and Sustainability and Computational Biology and Bioengineering Research Lab.

Residing Options

If you are a freshman and decide to stay on campus, you would most probably reside in University College community. You will have to take up the stairs as there Is no lift option. And, you might find the rooms less spacious than your own room back home. Once you become an upperclassman, you have the option of taking residence in University village, which houses apartment style places. In short if you like interacting with fellow students after hours and do not mind the rules, on campus accommodation is for you.
For some off campus accommodation is better as they do not have to pay the extra fees revolving around laundry and meals. Also, you get to have your own space without any rules and regulations.

Faculty

You will find all sorts of professors here. Some will be downright helpful and easy to approach while others might not be the friendly type. You can always test the waters by taking their class and see how they interact with you and your classmates before seeking their help.

Jobs and placements

You will learn about professional etiquettes and various other things regarding your future professional endeavors. The university gives you the chance to intern in business and have a better understanding about your chosen academics field. Some of the best internships are provided by the Environmental Protection Agency. Also, depending on your chosen field various firms and agencies come to hire you.
