The history of the Pittsburg State University is traced back to 1903. However it was in 1977 that the university was finally established under its present name. The student population consists of around 6900 undergraduate and 1400 graduate students. The students are from over 40 countries studying together giving it an international outlook. Over 200 academic programs are offered through an academic staff of around 300. The academic programs are arranged in 4 colleges: College of Arts and Sciences, Gladys A. Kelce College of Business, College of Education, College of Technology and the Graduate school. The university is accredited.

The Pittsburg State University has chosen as its mascot GUS the Gorilla.

Pittsburg State University and Kelce College of business are located in a beautiful 223 acre campus in Pittsburg, Kansas, USA.


The Division of Student Life is dedicated to serve the students from day one at the campus, through graduation and beyond. There are Medical services, a Mental and behavioral Health Services and a Crisis Response Services to assist and help the campus community.

The PSU Library services offers books, audios, videos, reference facilities, journal articles and theses and dissertation assistance. The other notable facilities include the database A-Z, The OER (Open educational resources) which provide full courses, course materials, modules, textbooks, streaming videos, tests, journal articles and many other materials used to support learning. One has the right to retain, reuse, revise, remix, redistribute materials available at the OER. There are numerous technological and audio/video tools that are available at the library to further learning activities.

Dining options are Gibsons Dining Hall which features a wide variety of fresh food to satisfy everyone’s taste, the Gorilla Crossing having BBQ Pit, Overman Burger Company, Pizza Hut, Seasons, Subconnection and Simply To Go, which cater to specific types of meals. Around the campus there are the Einstein Bros.bagels, Axe grind, Tres Habeneros and KTC Cafe. To cap it all there is a catering service which is ready to serve any menu one chooses!

The new Tyler Center houses the Business and Technology Institute and Kansas Polymer research center.

Residing Options

The accommodation at Pittsburg state university comprises of traditional, apartment and suit style residences. Rooms are furnished with amenities such as laundry, kitchen access, high speed wireless internet and secured access. Some units have cleaning service facilities. Each unit has lobby areas with space for relaxation, big screen television, vending machines and a kitchenette. All utility costs are included in the rent. Food is provided in the Gibson dining hall.

The traditional style houses are. Bowen Hall, Dellinger Hall, Nation Hall, Tanner Hall and Trout Hall, The apartment style houses are Block 22, Crimson Commons and Crimson Village Family apartments. The Willard Hall comprises of suite style houses.


The MBA program could be either MBA International business, MBA General administration, MBA Accounting or MBA Human resource development. The course of study consists of 30 credit hours (seven core courses and 3 electives). Each semester half of core classes are conducted online and the other half in the class. In the following semester the roles are reversed. Therefore there are 3 delivery systems; the student may take all core courses in class, or all online or as a blend of the two methods.

Those with a degree in business the course could be undertaken in 18 months. Those with non-business backgrounds the period could be extended to include prerequisite subjects such as, accounting,business finance, business statistics, organizational theory and behavior, and economics.

Jobs and placements

The career options are; company manager, business development director, financial analyst, investment banker, international marketing director and college instructor. The MBA Association of the Pittsburg State University provides opportunities for the students to build personal and professional relationships beyond the class room through guest speakers, company visits, social events, fund raising and networking activities. These in addition to enhancing the professional aspects of learning, they would certainly increase the marketability with regards to new careers and/or career advancements.
