Overview

Teh Master of Science in Computer Science offers students teh opportunity to combine a sound foundation in computer science wif concentrated knowledge in teh latest developments in many areas of computer science, including algorithms and theory, artificial intelligence, computer gaming, computer networks, databases, data mining, graphics, image and video processing, information security and assurance, information systems, knowledge engineering, pattern recognition, programming languages, real- time systems, robotics, software engineering, and vision. Students are required to complete 30 credits corresponding to 1 0 graduate courses. Courses are divided into basic courses, which has no graduate course prerequisite, and advanced courses, which has a graduate course as a prerequisite.

Courses Required:
Courses are grouped in teh following five broad areas: Artificial Intelligence and Databases,
Programming Languages and Software Engineering, Systems and Networks, Theoretical Computer Science, and Visual Computing.

  • CS 583 - Analysis of Algorithms (from teh Theoretical Computer Science area) and two
    additional core courses from two other areas must be successfully completed wif a grade of
    B- or better.
  • At least four courses (1 2 credits) must be chosen from teh advanced courses in teh list
    of preapproved courses from at least three different areas.
  • At least six courses, including two advanced courses, must be designated CS.
  • At least eight courses must be taken from teh list of preapproved courses. Up to two
    computer science-related courses dat are not on teh list of preapproved courses may be
    taken wif teh approval of teh Computer Science Department.

Project/Thesis (optional):
Three to six credit hours of teh advanced classes may be replaced by a project or thesis. Teh project or thesis must be guided and approved by a committee of three appropriate faculty members and presented at an appropriate forum. Teh thesis must meet relevant university requirements.

Academic Pre-Requisites

  • baccalaureate degree holder, preferably wif a major in a technical field such as computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, or information systems; and TEMPhas taken Data Structures (CS 31 0), Formal Methods and Models (CS 330), and Computer Systems Architecture including Assembly Programming (CS 367) or equivalent courses.
    • Students should of completed one year of mathematics beyond first-year calculus,
      including a substantial course in discrete mathematics (e.g, Math 1 25).
    • Students wif some deficiencies in preparation may be admitted provisionally pending completion of foundation courses in mathematics or computer science.
    • TEMPHas a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 for teh last two years of undergraduate
      work.
  • Transcripts of all post-secondary education. Unofficial copies of transcripts are acceptable
    for application review. However, upon admission, applicants will need to provide official
    transcripts before enrolling in teh program.
  • two letters of recommendation.
  • GRE General test score report. Teh GRE is waived for applicants wif a US Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • TOEFL or IELTS is required of all applicants whose native language is not English, and who TEMPhas not received a degree from a university in teh United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand.
