It was formerly known as École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées or ENPC and was also known as Ponts. It is the oldest and one of the most esteemed French Grandes Écoles, established in 1747 by Daniel-Charles Trudaine. 

In the past, the School's main goal was to educate civil engineers and engineering authorities. Still today it also provides a broad education in computer science, applied mathematics, civil engineering, mechanics, finance, economics, innovation, urban studies, and transport engineering.

Transportation in the city

Paris’ efficient transportation system that makes getting about the city quick and simple. The metro will be your savior if you're trying to save money on transportation because taxis in France can be quite pricey. It's the simplest and frequently least expensive way to move about the city. Tickets are valid on citywide buses, trams, and the RER train line.

You can purchase a Carte Imagine R, which allows unlimited travel on public transit in the Ile-de-France region if you are a university student under 26.


Student life at École des Ponts ParisTech

  • École des Ponts ParisTech is present on various campuses in addition to its primary location on the Descartes Campus.
  • The greatest higher education and research hub in eastern Paris, the Cité Descartes campus, is where École des Ponts ParisTech is located in Champs-sur-Marne.
  • Several organizations associated with the School are based in Paris at Maison des Ponts, including the alumni group Ponts Alliance and the Ponts Formation Conseil, which oversees all lifelong learning programs.

SPORTS FACILITIES

  • The School has a gymnasium, a grass rugby stadium, and an artificial turf soccer/rugby stadium all nearby (dance hall, gymnastics room, team sports, badminton court).
  • Daily athletic activity is possible thanks to all these amenities. Additional sports including swimming, rowing, golf, tennis, rock climbing, and many others are also accessible nearby or 15 minutes away by vehicle. 

STUDENT CLUBS 

  • Campus life is available to students at École des Ponts ParisTech approximately 20 minutes by RER A express train from the center of Paris, thanks to a wide variety of student organizations and top-notch sports facilities. The School is a center of vibrant student life with about 15 associations and the different clubs offered by the Student Office.
  • These organizations seek to foster student interaction, plan extracurricular or sporting events, represent students in interactions with the administration, and enhance the social scene in the School's specific geographic and cultural context.

On campus accomodation at École des Ponts ParisTech

Each year, École des Ponts ParisTech and partner houses work together to host between 350 and 400 students, half of whom are international. All first and second-year engineering students are accommodated on campus in one of the student dormitories run in partnership with the School if they want.

The Maison des Mines et des Ponts and the campus offer housing choices for third-year engineering students and students in other disciplines. You can also arrange your housing in private student housing, through private landlords, or in houses managed by the CROUS (Centre régionale des oeuvres universitaires et sociales). This public organization that specializes in managing student housing.
