The Lehman College was founded in 1931 as the Hunter College (Bronx campus). In September 1967, the Hunter College became an independent college under the City University of New York. The name was changed to honour the New York Governor, Herbert H. Lehman. The Lehman College is a public co-educational institution with around 90 degree programs, which include both under-graduate and graduate courses.

The Lehman College has its campus very near to the Jerome Park Reservoir in Bronx, New York. The exact address is at 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West, Bronx, New York.


This college boasts of a 37 acre sprawling campus with a beautiful blend of Gothic and new-age architectural structures. Having served as the training ground for women in the military during World War 2 and also as the head-quarters for the United Nations in 1946, the campus of Lehman College has rich history buried within its walls. The Lehman College Art Gallery and the Lehman Centre of the performing Arts are an integral part of the campus, lending an artistic quality to the historical campus premises.
