Abhineet Kothari talks about the resources and strategies he used in order to get a perfect Quant score.
Out of what I have observed, Quant tends to be a favorite topic for us, Asians, and we end up doing quite well on this section. Hence, it becomes even more important to score as much as you can on Quant so that it can boost the overall score. If you are an engineering student, you might have noticed that GRE Quant questions are much easier to solve than what you may have encountered in your past few years. But what you also need is knowing the right strategies and practicing them over and over again:
How to get 170 in GRE Quant?
Here's the process I followed to score a perfect GRE quant score:
- I used the Manhattan 5 lb book for Quant and highly recommend it for extensive practice.
- For knowing the right strategies, I watched a few lessons from Magoosh (you can sign up for a free trial here) and they helped a lot.
- You may also want to use the NOVA GRE Math textbook to get additional practice questions.
- All this while, don't forget to review concepts and practice questions from the Bible of GRE, the ETS Official Guide.
A lot of people say that they make silly mistakes in Quant although they have time left in the end. If this is the case with you, then you should give 20 seconds extra to each question, 10 before solving the question and 10 after solving it. While preparing for the GRE, Quant was almost like a detox for me after practicing tough Verbal questions. I used to gain confidence in my prep when I solved 10 Quant questions correctly after getting lot of Verbal questions wrong.
So to sum up my strategy, I had an unfair advantage because I was good at Math (coming from an engineering background), learned the right strategies for GRE from Magoosh and practiced a lot (more than 1200 questions) from great resources such as Manhattan 5 lb.
