Transportation in the city

The public transportation system in Hungary is effective and includes buses in all cities, trolley buses and trams in larger cities, metro services, as well as HÉV lines, suburban railway lines, and boat services in Budapest.

  • Passes are offered for varying periods of time (such as monthly) and are good for use on every mode of transportation. Tickets that can be purchased at stations or on the street can be used on any mode of transportation. On the entire length of a line, single tickets are good for a single trip without a transfer, but multiple tickets are required when the trip calls for changes.
  • If students often utilize public transportation, purchasing a monthly or annual pass is more financially sensible. Students are entitled to discounted pricing with a current student ID.
