Khazar University is a private institution based in Baku, Azerbaijan. The university operates four campuses within the city of Baku and two additional campuses across Azerbaijan, as follows: Neftchilar Campus, Downtown Campus, Baku Dunya School Campus, Sumgayit Dunya School Campus, Ganja Dunya School Campus, Buzovna Conference and Leisure Center

Khazar University was founded in March 1991 by Hamlet Isakhanli. As one of the first private universities in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia, and the first in Azerbaijan to adopt a Western-style, research-oriented educational approach, Khazar University marked a major shift in higher education. Isakhanli established the university with the goal of reforming the Soviet-era higher education system in Azerbaijan.

Academics and Departments

Khazar University in Azerbaijan offers a Western-style education across all academic levels: undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral. Known for its commitment to international exchange, the university actively participates in foreign student exchange programs and also operates a state-of-the-art lab to support hands-on learning and research.

The university comprises five distinct schools: the School of Science and Engineering, the School of Economics and Management, the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, the Graduate School of Science, Art and Technology, and the Graduate School of Economics and Business. Within these schools, there are several departments, including English Language and Literature, and History and Archaeology. The Department of History and Archaeology, which was originally named the Department of History, was established in June 1993 and now belongs to the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. Additionally, the university includes the Department of Political Sciences and Philosophy and the Institute of Politics, previously known as the Center for International and Strategic Studies.

Despite its growing reputation and contributions to academia, the university has not yet been featured in the rankings published by these influential bodies.
