Concordia University Irvine, a private Lutheran university in Irvine, California, was founded in 1976 by the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (LCMS) to serve the Pacific Southwest region. After evaluating 87 potential locations, a search committee ultimately accepted an offer from The Irvine Company, a commercial and residential developer, for a site in Irvine. In 1973, Rev. Dr. Charles Manske accepted the district’s call to serve as the founding president, leading to the establishment of the school as Christ College Irvine.
