NYU Tandon was previously known as  NYU Polytechnic Institute. NYU Courant is the actual NYU college right from the very beginning which is at a high ranking when compared to NYU Poly.. NYU Courant has good professors, students, internship and job opportunities and also highly reputed. NYU Tandon is little less reputed comparatively.

These days many Courant professors have shifted to NYU Tandon and it has been rising up in the ranks considerably every year. New York Polytechnic Institute(Tandon's previous name) is the second oldest Engineering institute in the US. NYU didn't have any Engineering school and hence merged Poly into it. It came to be known as NYU Poly and recently NYU Tandon, after Ranjan and Chandrika Tandon donated 100 mill USD to the school.
