Visa Interview Experience:
Reached the consulate at 6 and was allowed to enter only at 7:20.
The crowd was not that high since it was the first slot (would recommend morning slot), it wasn’t that hot to wait outside.
Visa officer was a young pretty lady in her late 20s. And I was the first student applying for F1 today and the first in the queue
VO: Hi! Good morning! Pass me your passport
ME: Hi officer! Very good morning! How are you? Here’s my passport (gave my i20 as well)
VO: I’m good. So you are on F1?
ME: Yes ma’am!
VO: Which course?
ME: Master s in EE specialising in the field of networks
VO: Which college?
ME: San Jose state University.
VO: What was your undergrad major?
ME: Electronics and communication engineering
(Very nervous at this point since I could not hear properly)
VO: Why San Jose(smiling)?
ME: Ma’am this university is giving me 14 different courses relevant to my field of interest whereas the other universities are giving only a maximum of 7 courses.
They provide courses such as. And also I’m very keen in studying at the Cisco networking lab, cloud computing lab, (mentioned few other labs) which would help me gain more practical knowledge in the field that I’m interested.
VO: That’s nice. (she was impressed and continuously types something for few minutes and goes inside)
ME: (wondering what I told, was very scared and nervous. I felt she wanted to ask someone about the course curriculum)
VO: (came back) Who’s funding you?
ME: My parents are funding me and also I have a secured education loan of XX lacs.
VO: What do your parents do?
ME: By profession my father is an advocate and mother is a sericulture extensions officer (scientist)
VO: Their annual income?
ME: So and so lacs.
VO: What are your plans post masters?
ME: I will be coming back to work as a network engineer in the company that I’m currently working in, and my long term goal is to work at leading telecom clients such as Jio, Reliance, Airtel, Vodafone Cisco, Intel back here in India as a senior network engineer.
VO: Nice (goes inside for another minute and returns back)
Then the golden words..
VO: I am approving your visa! have a nice stay in US. I will keep the passport.
ME: Thank you so much! You made my day. Have a great day ma’am.
(I forgot to collect my i20, she reminded me and then I hardly heard anything after that, took my i20 and scooted)
I was in my own happy world.
