UChicago’s Computer Science program involves students on the cutting edge of operating systems, artificial intelligence, information theory and coding, analysis of algorithms, complexity theory, numerical computation, combinatorics, and computability theory.

  • The course requires fulfillment of the general education requirement in the mathematical sciences by completing an approved two-quarter calculus sequence. Also students have to choose any sequence or pair of courses approved by the Physical Sciences department.
  • BS students take at least fourteen computer science courses chosen from an approved program.
  • Students have the option to complete one specialization.To do so, students must take three courses from an approved electives. out of Data Science,Machine Learning, Computer Systems, Programming Languages, Computer Security & Human Computer Interaction.

Academic Pre-Requisites

High School Subject:

  • Academic records must include:
  • Secondary School/High School Transcripts
  • Secondary School Official Report/Recommendation
  • Two Teacher Letter of Recommendation

Standardised Test:

  • SAT or ACT scores. students may elect to submit one of several other forms of testing in lieu of an SAT or ACT score:
  •  Predicted or final International Baccalaureate scores.
  • Predicted or final A-Level/A2 scores.
  • Scores from three or more SAT Subject Tests in different subject areas (with at least one in Mathematics or Science and at least one in English, History, Social Sciences, Arts, or World Languages and Cultures).
  • For students whose school offers Advanced Placement (AP) classes as part of your curriculum, scores from three or more AP exams in different subject areas (with at least one in Math, Computer Science, or Science and at least one in English, History, or Language).
  • SAT-Critical Reading - 730 - 780
  • Math - 750 - 800
  • ACT- 32 - 35
  • AP - Score of 5.0
  • IB - Higher level score of 7
  • TOEFL - iBT - Score of 100 or higher
  • IELTS_Academic- an overall score of 7, with subscores of 7 each.
  • PTE – Minimum 70


  • Students in the program are able to use a myriad of useful resources provided by Career Advancement. The Jeff Metcalf Internship Program provides paid, substantive internships exclusively to UChicago students
  • Past internship employers include the Argonne National Laboratory, Google, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, and many more.
  • Treks give UCISTEM students the opportunity to travel to STEM hubs in the United States for two to three day career exploration trips. During a trek, students visit STEM organizations, meet alumni in these fields, explore internship and full-time opportunities,
