@shahjay  ,hey , i also got admit to MCS whereas i applied to MS program , not MCS. Is it true that all students are admitted to MCS & on the basis of performance they are admitted to MS ? Its nowhere mentioned in the asu cs dept. site.

@mdepak I wud tell U not to depend on the college as many here seem to be suggesting. Dont assume that they would consider Ur request for transfer after a year. I wud suggest dont take it.

Sorry don't know about this . ASU is notorious in sending ppl to poly campus from CS to IT also. Ppl have applied to main campus in CS and they are asked to take admit poly and that to IT.

@mdepak I also received a similar decision of MCS instead of MSCS, for 2018 Fall though. What did you do after that? Changed your course by paying an extra fee?

@tprava I don't know the details yet, I am as confused as you are, that's why I posted my comment here. I mailed them about this concern and they said:
"It is our policy that we initially admit all our students to non-thesis (MCS) program. Once you arrive here and find a faculty to work with, you can apply for a change from MCS to MS. So it does not mean you have to graduate from MCS, you just need to find a supervisor after you start the program to switch to the MS"

For one semester you will have to do MCS. After one semester you will get an option to change from MCS to MSCS based on your academic performance and vacancy.

I believe what @aston said is correct. Even for Electrical engineering, it was clearly stated that initially all admissions are made to the coursework program and based on your academic performance over the first semester, you will be allowed
