Does degree matter for what jobs one wants?

Question

If one pursues Robotics and other pursues Computer Engineering does it matter as to what kind of job one can get into? Does one have to stick to robotics related jobs if he graduates even if he has the skill for Computer Engineering.

Hi,
It's not necessary to stick to robotics jobs if a student has pursued his master's degree in robotics but it is preferred.

For SDE type jobs, the descriptions are along the lines of:
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate degree in computer science, business, mathematics, statistics, economics, or other quantitative fields.

Computer science(CS) is a generic degree. You can apply in most fields. 
Computer engineering(CE) can also be categorized as a generic field provided you have taken the right subjects. Many universities allow CE students to take all CS subjects. 
For robotics, It is a mixture of electronics and a few technology subjects. A student with a degree in robotics might not be able to apply to some software-based companies.
