About:

Last year, UGA awarded more than 7 million in scholarships and awards from University Foundation funds to undergraduate students. Most academic (merit-based) scholarships for first-year students are awarded during the Admissions process. Approximately 14% of enrolled first-year students received an academic scholarship from UGA. International and F-1 visa applicants can qualify for many of these merit-based scholarships.

Benefits of Foundation Fellowship:

  • Annual stipend for international students: 22,300 plus a Presidential waiver (currently worth 18,574 per year) and a first-year housing supplement of 1,228
  • Three fully funded spring travel-study programs (first through third years, valued at 9,900) In recent years, Fellows have traveled to Morocco, South Korea, Japan, Tanzania, Ecuador, and Costa Rica.
  • One fully funded summer study abroad program to Oxford University immediately following the first year (valued at 8,500)
  • Individual travel-study grants up to a cumulative total of 9,000 (related to students’ academic and professional goals, can be combined with semester stipends for travel-study for semester or academic year)
  • Research and academic conference grants up to a cumulative total of 1,750
  • Special seminars and book discussions with UGA and visiting professors
  • Faculty, peer, and alumni mentoring
  • Twice-a-year, all-scholar retreats
  • Participation in a community of young scholars who stimulate each other’s intellectual and personal development through the exchange of ideas and experiences

Scholarship Requirements:

  • Typically 18-22 new student awards
  • Minimum academic GPA of 3.9 (unweighted) to apply
  • Minimum combined SAT I score of 2110, new SAT (SAT-R) score of 1460 or ACT score of 33 to apply
  • A record of strong academic achievement and a history of accomplishment and leadership in co-curricular activities
