Hi,
I wouldn't recommend following a standard template. The admission committee might have seen enough of these and will decrease your chances of an admit. Some dos and don't for the SOP are:
- don't start with a childhood story. Nobody cares. 
- Start with an eye-catching recent event. The admission committee does not have more than a few minutes. An eye-catching event will help the admission committee to remember and take an interest in the SOP.
- Don't write your full life story. Instead focus on the recent 1-3 events, how you tackled the problems and what lead to you pursuing for master's in Canada
- don't tell the same things from your resume

Many university websites have the exact requirement for the SOP on the website itself. Follow those rules till the last letter.
