Based on rankings for mech Syracuse is better. Located in NY state so you do have opportunities...Job opportunities and ROI is something no one can predict. Career fairs don't matter much as 80-85% companies have a criteria for citizenship or green card. You are anyways going to apply online with everyone else.
Check their coursework and see which university gives a specialisation in sync with your interest.
