German student VISA

Hey everyone,
I'm applying for Masters in Germany. I have an elder brother who has studied and lived in Europe for 7 years now. He's living in France right now (with a Permanent Residence) and has also applied for a French citizenship. Will this hinder my chances of getting a student VISA to study in Germany? I'm worried about this as both the countries belong in the Schengen group. If anybody has any information about this, kindly share. Thank you!
