Visa interview Experience:

After getting in I was freezing as hell. The guy just before me got rejected as he was not able to convince the VO why he choose the university. I took 3 deep breaths and went ahead to the window as the VO called me. VO was a 30-35 year old guy. I put my umbrella down, got up and said

ME: Good morning sir, how are you? (Gave a huge smile)
VO: (didn't reply, extended his hand) Pass your i20, passport and sevis fee receipt.
ME:
(passed) (kept on smiling).

VO: Which universities did you apply to and from which did you get the acceptance?
ME:
Sir I applied to 4 universities. (Realised I was looking somewhere else,, immediately made an eye contact and kept on making the whole time) Which are (told the names)

VO: Okay. So why you chose northwestern, no (correcting himself) Newyork institute of technology?
ME:
(was explaining)

VO: (interrupted me) Do you have tourist visa?
ME:
Yes sir. I have b1 visa.

VO: What does your father do?
ME:
(told).

VO: Who is going to fund your education?
ME:
My father. And I have also taken a loan.

VO: Who has taken a loan? You? Or your father?
ME:
Me sir.

VO: Oh that is good. That is really good.
ME:
Yes sir. Thank you.

VO: That is really great. You should pay it yourself. One got to do it himself. (Big smile from him)
ME:
Yeah. That is why.. (We both laughed.)

VO: (After typing something into his computer) Ok. Your visa is approved. Have a nice stay in the states. Your passport will be ready in 3-4 days.
ME:
Thank you sir. Thank you so much.

P.S: Be confident. Smiling and making eye contact throughout the interview is the key to success. And also research a lot about your university, program, location you are going to, etc. Also stay clear with your future plans. Be prepared to be asked anything. Be spontaneous. They want to hear your explanation and your point of view and not some mugged up answers.
