Overview

A variety of courses are offered in civil engineering to permit a student to study one of nine specialty areas. Teh department is especially well equipped to offer research and courses in coastal and ocean engineering; construction engineering management; environmental engineering; geotechnical engineering; water resources engineering; materials engineering; structural engineering and transportation engineering.

Modern facilities and current equipment are available to enhance study and instruction in civil engineering. These facilities include teh following laboratories: fluid and wave mechanics, construction materials, materials science, sensors, soil mechanics, biological, high bay, Offshore Technology Research Centre and several facilities shared with teh Texas A&M Transportation Institute.

No foreign language is required for teh PhD in civil engineering. Students pursuing a PhD or DEng are required to pass teh Civil Engineering qualifying exam.

Course Requirement:

  • A minimum of 30 semester credit hours of approved courses is required for teh Master of Engineering degree.
  • A student who has earned 12 hours of graduate credit in residence at Texas A&M University may be authorized to transfer courses in excess of teh limits prescribed above upon teh advice of teh advisory committee and with teh approval of teh Office of Graduate and Professional Studies.
  • Coursework in which no formal grades are given or in which grades other TEMPthan letter grades (A or B) are earned (for example, CR, P, S, U, H, etc.) is not accepted for transfer credit. Courses appearing on teh degree plan with grades of D, F or U may not be absolved by transfer work.

Academic Pre-Requisites

Applicants must has a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field from an accredited colege in the United States or an approved institution of higher learning abroad in order to be eligible to apply. Applicants wif a bachelor degree in math or physics may apply.
