The Illinois College was established in 1829 by the Illinois Band, consisting of Yale University students in Jacksonville, Illinois. The Illinois College acceptance rate is 75.2%, with a total undergraduate enrollment of 1,154 (fall 2020) and 500 international students within a suburban setting. 

In 1835, it became Illinois' first institution to grant a baccalaureate degree. A few Illinois College courses include Accounting, Art, Agriculture, Sciences, Business, Communication, Computer Science, Languages, Education, Engineering, Health Sciences, Management, Nursing, Sports, Law, and Psychology. It also served as the state's first medical school for a short time, from 1843 to 1848.

Transportation in the city

Student life at Illinois College

The Illinois College campus is located in Jacksonville and spans an area of 80 acres. Students, teachers and visitors at the University of Illinois are fortunate to access an excellent public transportation network.

Illinois College competes with other NCAA Division III football schools as a member of the Midwest Conference. At the school, varsity sports are played by 463 student-athletes, 289 of whom are male, and 174 of whom are female. Students can join the Illinois College Baseball, Basketball, Football, Golf, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Track & Field, and Volleyball teams.


On campus accomodation at Illinois College

Qualifying students have access to eight centrally located residence halls, 23 apartments, and nine campus-owned houses. The Steuer Walkway divides the university into two sections: the top quad and the lower quad.

  • Sturtevant Hall, Crampton Residence Hall, Whipple Hall, and Tanner Hall are among the structures in the upper quad, located on the north side of campus.
  • The lower quad is located on the campus's south side and houses numerous residence halls, the Caine Student Center, and the Bruner Fitness Center.
  • All rooms have two complete sets of furniture: a bed frame, a twin mattress (XL available upon request), a dresser, a closet or wardrobe, a desk, and a desk chair.
  • Students' requirements will be met by three on-campus dining venues, a snack-shop convenience store, a Starbucks coffee shop, and a range of flexible meal plans.
  • All residences are air-conditioned, and there is free in-hall printing, coin-free laundry, and cable television. Students can also access a Netflix-like site called IC Movies via their IC network login.
  • Common areas have large-screen televisions, ping pong tables, pool tables, and kitchens where you may prepare your food.
  • Resident assistants who are helpful work as guides and host residence hall programmes to promote the campus community.
  • The average rent for housing at the university is 9,374 USD (7,18,995.64 INR).
