What is the I20 document and How to get it?

The I-20 form is a certificate of eligibility for nonimmigrant student status, issued by a Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP)-certified school stating that a student has been admitted to a full-time study program and has also demonstrated sufficient financial means to stay in the United States. Students receive a Form I-20 from their designated school official (DSO). The appropriate I-20 Form is issued based on whether the school you are going to attend is in F-1 or M-1 status.

In order to obtain the I20 form, the student needs to demonstrate that he/she has sufficient funds to attend the university. The financial proof should be money or some liquid assets which can be monetized immediately. It can be a Bank balance, Fixed deposit, or Loan offer letter.

All the documents must be in English and should also specify the appropriate conversion from INR to USD. If you are providing a bank statement, the statement should be signed and stamped by the branch manager. You can provide more than one source of funds.

These documents should be attached and mailed to your university specifying any application ID or student ID (if applicable).
