Non cs to cs masters

Hi , I am btech mechanical having 2 years experience in IT full stack. I want to do masters in computer science in fall 2023 . My question is should I apply for spring 2023 and ask for defer as there is less competition in spring. Also many people are getting rejected due to branch change what can I do to prevent that . Many got rejected due to final year project . My final year project was in robotics how can I connect it with master . I have published 2 research paper in not so reputed research journal . Can I show that instead of my real btech project.
