Most universities have a cut off of 3.5-4 for MS applicants and it is higher for PHD.. A decent score is thus important.. Also it helps universities to gauge the authenticity of your SOP's, for eg u have a low AWA score and yet a flawless, well written SOP it might be concluded that the SOP has been written by someone else.
