Changing university after booking visa slot

Have seen message that once we book the slot using sevis id from one university (yet to attend interview and not paid sevis fee), we should proceed with university I20 which we have used during slot booking or cancel the slot and change sevis id. Is that true? Can someone please clarify on this.

If you paid your sevis fee for the University which you are not willing to go then you need to make a sevis transfer, if you didn't paid sevis fee then it's not a problem. See more

Thanks for reply, I didn't submit my ds 160 so simply I can update my sevis id in ds 160 and proceed right? See more

You cannot change SEVIS ID ever Get SEVIS payment transferred to new SEVIS ID (for free) You can create a new DS 160 (for free) Use the new SEVIS ID in this new DS 160 form (again for free) Replace old DS 160 with new DS 160 number in CGI Portal under profile update section (agaaain for freee) See more

You can change both your DS 160 and get the SEVIS ID payment transferred to a new SEVIS ID
