But amid all the academic prep, there’s another crucial aspect to consider: the GRE fees. We understand that taking the GRE is an investment, and there are additional costs to factor in besides the application fee. Thinking about rescheduling your test date? Wondering about late registration penalties? Curious about the payment options available? We’ve got you covered!

This blog goes beyond the basic fee structure. This comprehensive guide will break down everything you need to know about the GRE fees in 2024, including payment modes and other significant aspects relevant to applying for the GRE test.

Quick Facts About GRE Fees Structure

Let us begin with some quick facts about GRE and its role and importance in reaching the college of your dreams:

    • Graduate Record Examination or GRE is a standardized test for students aspiring to pursue graduate courses in the best universities abroad.
    • There are two types of GRE tests- GRE General Test and GRE Subject Test. While the former assesses verbal reasoning, quantitative and analytical writing skills, the latter tests your knowledge in specific fields of study.
    • There is no age limit for the GRE exam. Anyone having an undergraduate degree is considered to possess the eligibility for GRE.
    • The GRE scores are accepted by several business and law schools for pursuing postgraduate and doctorate programs.
    • GRE test fee depends on your country of origin and the type of GRE test you aspire to enrol in. Consequently, the GRE exam cost differs for the General and Subject tests. While the GRE General Test fee varies as per the location of the applicants, the cost of the GRE Subject Test fee is uniform all over the world.

Since the pandemic in 2020, ETS has made provisions for students to appear for the GRE test safely at home. The GRE at home fees 2024 is ₹22,550 INR, the same as the test centre fees. The GRE cost at home is similar to that of the general GRE cost, and ETS has taken this step to make the exam accessible to all aspiring students. However, it’s important to note that the GRE at-home option may not be available in all locations.

Additionally, taking the GRE at home requires a computer that meets specific technical specifications, including a reliable internet connection, a webcam, and a quiet testing environment.

Modes of Payment for GRE Exam Fees

ETS does not accept cash payments for the GRE General Test, GRE Subject Tests, or GRE score report fees. They offer a secure online system for you to pay your test fees and schedule your exam (slot booking fee).

These wallets include FreeCharge, PayZapp, Airtel Money, Google Pay, MobiKwik, JioMoney, Ola Money, PhonePe, Amazon Pay, Paytm, WhatsApp, and all BHIM UPI-enabled banking apps.

Note: Voucher codes may also be accepted as a form of payment, but these are typically issued by sponsored organisations and have specific validity periods.
